What is lenten lily?

Lenten lily (Narcissus pseudonarcissus) is a perennial flowering plant that belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family. It is a native plant of Europe and an early-blooming flower that usually makes an appearance during the Lent season, thus the name Lenten lily.

Lenten lilies have a bright yellow trumpet-shaped flower with six petals that stand out from its green stem. They usually grow to be about 25 cm tall and are easy to cultivate in both sunny and partially shaded places in well-drained soil. Lenten lilies require minimal care and are often used for naturalizing gardens or landscape designs.

Lenten lilies have been used for medicinal purposes, particularly for the treatment of gout, skin infections, and respiratory ailments. They are also popular among gardeners for their beauty and ability to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
